Zappacosta Vini winery

Zappacosta Vini is a family winery with deep roots in Abruzzo, specifically around Chieti and Bucchianico. Its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when grandfather Antonio and his father Adamo decided to dedicate themselves to producing and selling wine. Their distinctive method was preserving must in small clay amphorae called Zirre, ancient vessels that allowed the wine to mature and retain its aroma. After being transferred into small wooden barrels called varili, the must was transported on mules and sold in taverns in Bucchianico, a town on the edge of ancient Teate.

After the wars, the land was divided among children, leading to a gradual decline in winemaking. However, the passion for wine endured in their descendants' veins. In 2008, Carmine, Antonio's son, and his son Adamo decided to revive the family tradition and founded a true winery focused on producing wine from high-quality grapes. After Carmine's passing, young Matteo took over. Since then, organic farming has been developed, focusing on soil respect and revitalization, gentle grape processing and storage, all in harmony with ancient life cycles. The synergy between innovation and tradition is the philosophy of Adamo and Matteo, father and son, who have co-managed the winery since 2016.

In 2021, Matteo and Adamo decided to expand production and return to the old lands that once belonged to their beloved grandfather Antonio. They restored life to a lost part of Bucchianico, planting exclusively native grape varieties. This area, known for its exceptional location and quality grapes, provides an almost complete overview of winemaking.

Today, Zappacosta Vini continues the family tradition with a focus on organic farming, respect for nature and preserving the authentic character of regional wines.
